Description

At magnitude 10.5 and measuring just 3-4' across, C42 is one of the smallest and faintest of the Caldwell globular clusters. Like all of the northern Caldwell GCs, it's located outside the rim of the galaxy at a distance of 135,000 light years from Earth. Its intrinsic faintness and great distance make it a rather unimpressive object in small 'scopes. Several 15th and 16th magnitude galaxies can be seen in the background.
